COOLING CENTER
St. Helens Senior Center
375 S. 15th Street, St. Helens
All ages welcome
Monday: 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Tuesday: 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.
The St. Helens Senior Center (375 S. 15th Street) will be open as a cooling center on Monday and Tuesday, August 14-15, 2023. The St. Helens Senior Center has air conditioning, water, and restrooms. Pets are welcome upon approval when you arrive. Snacks and food are allowed. You can contact the St. Helens Senior Center at 503-397-3377 with questions.

The following locations welcome the public to visit their building for a place to cool off during their regular business hours (non-cooling-center locations). Air conditioning, water, and restrooms are available.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS from the NWS:
- Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
- Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
- Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments
- Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
- Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
