Partnership in St. Helens Celebrates Columbia County Writers and Authors

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 13, 2025

St. Helens, Ore. – The Lower Columbia County Anthology organizers and St. Helens Public Library are partnering to support Columbia County writers and authors through a series of upcoming events and a new collection at the local library.

St. Helens Public Library staff are currently working with the Anthology organizers to establish a special collection of books by local authors at St. Helens Public Library. The collection will be built prior to its debut on February 14, 2026, which will be the kick-off to a month-long series celebrating Columbia County writers and authors.

Events during the month will include workshops on writing and publishing, a special St. Helens Writers Guild meeting, a local author book sale and signing event, and an anthology release party. Community members can look forward to local author and writer-related activities as part of the St. Helens Public Library’s regular adult and children programming.

The series will conclude with a celebration of the inaugural “Hidden World: a Lower Columbia County Anthology” on March 14, 2026. The anthology contains essays, poetry, and short stories by members of the St. Helens Writers Guild and Scappoose Library Writers Group.

“We’re thrilled by St. Helens Public Library’s support of local writers and authors,” said Ellen Jacobson, anthology co-organizer and local author. “In addition to promoting literacy and encouraging writers, this partnership strengthens the community connections that make Columbia County such a special place to live.”

Nicole Woodruff, St. Helens Library Technician, is helping lead the program for the St. Helens Public Library. “Establishing this new collection at the Library will be meaningful for our community,” said Woodruff. “Local authors seeing their work as an official part of the Library’s holdings will be really impactful.”

Library Director Suzanne Bishop said, “We are pleased to collaborate with the organizers of the Lower Columbia County Anthology to honor the writing talent in the county. This is a great reminder that libraries and our library staff serve our community in many ways.”

More information about the special local authors’ collection will be available in November. A calendar of events and program details will be released in January.
