Summer Library Challenge 2023: Find Your Voice

Join us at the St. Helens Public Library for our annual Summer Library Challenge from June 19 to August 13, 2023! Track hours you spend reading, learning, helping, and making to earn badges, stickers, and prizes. Programs are available for young people age 0 to 17 years old, and adults over 18 years old.

Worldwide Knit in Public Day

Join us Saturday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Worldwide Knit in Public Day! Celebrate your passion for fiber arts with fellow knitters, felters, and makers around the world. You can be a beginner or a seasoned spinner – everybody is welcome!

We will be knitting in the lobby of the St. Helens Public Library and sharing each other's company. Come meet other local knitters.

Be sure to bring a fiber arts project to work on, some water, and snacks to enjoy. Chairs are available at the Library (or bring your favorite rocker from home).

End-of-Summer Dance Party

Come celebrate the end of the Summer Library Challenge in the Auditorium with a dance party! Wear your best summer outfit and come prepared to boogie! All ages.

This event is free and you do not need a St. Helens Public Library card to participate.

Reptile Man

The Reptile Man was bitten in 1970. Not literally, but by the bite of extreme curiosity concerning the natural world, and its seemingly infinite colors, patterns, and abilities in the reptile realm. Established in 1991, the Reptile Man uses exotic reptiles from around the world as educational ambassadors to 400 organizations yearly. Ages 5 and up.

Red Yarn Productions

Red Yarn (aka Andy Furgeson) weaves folksongs and puppetry into high-energy, interactive shows for family audiences. With traditional and original songs blending folk, rockabilly, country, and blues, Red Yarn will have audiences singing, dancing, stomping, clapping, and celebrating the multicultural musical heritage of the USA. As Red leads audiences through the landscapes of American folklore, he introduces his Critter friends along the way.

STEAM Zone: Slime Time!

Join Mx. Aryn in the Makerspace where we’ll be talking about states of matter, non-Newtonian fluids, and putting what we learn into practice by making some slime! Ages 8 to 12. Limit 10 people, registration required.

Oregon Rocks

Take off on a geology adventure and explore our ever-changing Planet Earth. Dig into rocks, fossils, earthquakes, and volcanoes through hands-on activities and rockin’ specimens, and discover the dynamic forces that have shaped Oregon’s landscape throughout the millennia! In the Auditorium. Ages 5 to 11.

This event is free and you do not need a St. Helens Public Library card to participate.

Tie Dye

Join Mx. Aryn in the Library courtyard to tie dye! Bandanas and blank t-shirts will be provided, or you can bring your own cotton fabric materials if you have something you’d like to dye. Make sure not to wear anything you would mind getting messy! Ages 6 and up. Limit 15, registration required.

Teen Zine

For decades, “zines” (short for magazines) have been powerful tools of self-expression and a great way to share ideas offline. Come join Mx. Aryn in the Makerspace to learn how to make them! All materials will be provided, and you can donate your zine to be added to the Library zine collection. Ages 13 to 17. Limit 16 people, first come first served.
