Get to know the equipment in our new makerspace by doing a fun project! You’ll receive an orientation to the makerspace, learn to use a specific piece of equipment, and go home with something you made yourself. Spaces are limited; please call 503-397-4544 starting Monday, October 11 to sign up.

This talk will walk through a number of often-used genealogy charts and discuss their similarities, differences, and what they bring to the capture of your research work.

Get into the guts of what makes electronics work. You'll get to try out a variety of circuitry projects from paper circuits to more advanced creations. Ages 7-12. Nature Buddies

Wednesdays at 11AM at McCormick Park Veterans Plaza starting October 20

Join us for a nature activity in the park! Each week the Library and Parks & Rec will present a short readaloud and songs and then provide an activity/lesson to hand out to parents/carers to do with their young people through age 5.

Outdoor Make It! LEGO

Visit the Library for unstructured, drop-in LEGO play time with our collection of donated LEGO bricks. Duplo sets are available for younger children. Come create with us! All ages.

Story Stroll

Take a trail walk at McCormick Park and enjoy reading a picture book as you go! Pages of the book are posted at stations along the path, and you can access the trail any time the park is open.

Columbia County Reads Takes off in 2021

“Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race” by Margot Lee Shetterly has been chosen as this year’s Columbia County Reads selection. Set amid the civil rights movement, “Hidden Figures” tells the true story of NASA’s Black female mathematicians who played a crucial role in America’s space program. “Hidden Figures” is available to check out from all Columbia County libraries, including the St. Helens Public Library, in adult, young reader, and picture book forms.
